Leading Oil Operator Utilizes Smart Cloud for Megaproject

Leading Oil Operator, a joint venture operating one of the world’s largest oil fields in the Middle East, needed a better way to manage engineering information across a major brownfield revamp and new greenfield development. The company wanted to move away from a fragmented on-premise environment and make fuller use of its evolving DMDC strategy while improving data quality and consistency. Hexagon PPM’s Smart Plant tools, including SmartPlant Fusion, SmartPlant Foundation, SmartPlant Markup Plus, Intergraph Smart Data Validator, and SmartPlant Interop Publisher, were used to support the effort.

Hexagon PPM implemented a phased solution in Intergraph Smart Cloud, starting with a rapid information portal built on Fusion, SDV, and SPIOP, then planning the migration of the on-premise EDW into the cloud and integration with the operator’s operational SAP system. This approach is designed to standardize engineering data, improve completeness and consistency, and eventually retire legacy SharePoint and document control systems. The result is a stronger digital foundation for project handover to operations, with faster transitions from FEED to detail design, commissioning, startup, and long-term operations.
