Case Study: Gelsia improves plant safety and maintenance efficiency with Hexagon PPM CADWorx

Leading energy provider increases productivity and lowers management costs of thermal power plant and substations in Northern Italy

Gelsia, an Italian leader in gas, heat, and environmental services, needed a better way to manage the safety, maintenance, and documentation of its combined heat and power plant and substations in Northern Italy. Working with Hexagon PPM, the company used CADWorx P&ID, CADWorx Plant Professional, and CADWorx Design Review to create an accurate, intelligent “as-built” view of its facilities.

Hexagon PPM implemented a 3D laser survey and point-cloud-based model to build a complete digital representation of the plant, including equipment data, piping, isometrics, and bills of material. As a result, Gelsia improved safety, streamlined operations and maintenance, created a stronger materials management database, reduced management costs, and laid the groundwork to integrate CMMS and GIS systems into future projects.
