ICPE Reduces Man-hours With Cadworx® on Design Of Crude-by-rail Facility

Intermountain Consumer Professional Engineers (ICPE), a U.S.-based mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineering firm, needed to design a large crude-by-rail and marine loading facility for the Tesoro-Savage joint venture while managing a lengthy approval process, frequent revisions, and the need to quickly ramp up design work after model review. ICPE worked with Hexagon PPM and used CADWorx Plant Professional, Intergraph Smart 3D, I-Configure, and CAESAR II to support the project.

Hexagon PPM helped ICPE run CADWorx on the more affordable BricsCAD platform, update model metadata and pipe specifications, and automate isometric and material-list generation. This reduced inconsistencies between pipe catalogs and the 3D model, eliminated manual corrections, and enabled alternative layout analysis and estimates. As a result, ICPE saved an estimated 960 man-hours and about $6,500 per CADWorx user over five years.
