Hydrogenics improves engineering data quality with Hexagon PPM across 20 projects a year

Hydrogenics Europe, a Belgium-based global leader in hydrogen systems, was facing challenges with the quality and accessibility of its engineering data. The company needed to replace its in-house P&ID solution and sought a database-driven system that could integrate seamlessly with its existing IFS ERP software to eliminate manual work and improve information consistency. They partnered with vendor Hexagon PPM to implement the Intergraph Smart® P&ID solution.

Hexagon PPM developed a customized, bidirectional interface between Smart P&ID and Hydrogenics' ERP system. This solution automated data exchange, capturing all engineering information and making it centrally available to every department. The implementation eliminated manual data entry and human error, significantly improving data quality and engineering efficiency. The system is now used by six engineers across approximately 20 projects per year, keeping a master data set of thousands of items and properties sound.
