Hydrogenics Europe Improves Engineering Data Quality With Intergraph Smart® P&ID

Hydrogenics, a Belgium-based energy and machinery company, needed to replace its in-house P&ID solution and improve the quality and accessibility of engineering information in its IFS ERP system. The company wanted a database-driven, easy-to-use solution with minimal customization, and turned to Hexagon PPM and Intergraph Smart® P&ID to better manage complex project delivery data.

Hexagon PPM implemented a customized bidirectional interface between Smart P&ID and IFS, allowing engineering data such as process specifications, instrument data, relations, and part information to flow automatically between systems. The result was improved data quality, less manual work and human error, faster access to centralized information for multiple departments, and better documentation consistency; the solution is now used by six engineers across about 20 projects per year, handling 600+ items and 6,000+ properties on average.
