A Hexagon PPM Case Study
FLSmidth, a global engineering and design provider for the cement and minerals industries, faced a fast-track challenge on a copper concentrator project in Kazakhstan. With teams in the U.S., India, and a subcontractor all using different design platforms, the company risked nonstandard outputs, communication issues, delays, and added costs. Hexagon PPM’s CADWorx Plant Professional and CAESAR II were used to help manage the piping and design work.
Hexagon PPM implemented a common CADWorx-based design environment that standardized configurations, enabled information sharing, and allowed read-only access to shared files across offices. This improved collaboration, centralized material specification control, and kept the project on schedule. FLSmidth reported saving an estimated 600–700 work hours, or about 700 hours, while achieving a more integrated and coherent plant design.
