Fichtner Consulting Engineers Solve Project Complexities with CADWorx and CAESAR II

Fichtner Consulting Engineers Private Limited, an India-based engineering firm serving the power sector, was selected by JSW Steel Limited Salem Works to provide detailed engineering for a US$30 million power project in Tamil Nadu. The project involved seven boilers supplying steam to two 30 MW turbines, with complex high-pressure, high-temperature piping, long distances between equipment, and existing misalignments that made accurate piping design and analysis critical. Hexagon PPM’s CAESAR II and CADWorx Plant Professional were used to address these challenges.

Using Hexagon PPM’s CAESAR II and CADWorx, Fichtner modeled the main steam piping as a single system, created 3D layouts, produced stress calculations and isometrics, and resolved flange misalignment by adjusting spring hangers and supports. The solution helped avoid remodeling, reduce errors and labor-hours, and complete the project ahead of schedule, supporting the successful operation of the seven boilers and two turbines.
