Eskom Creates Intelligent Engineering Information Assets with Hexagon PPM Technology

Eskom, South Africa’s largest electricity utility, needed a standardized way to manage engineering information across major power generation projects and its plant fleet. To address this challenge, Eskom selected Hexagon PPM’s SmartPlant and Intergraph Smart solutions, including SmartPlant Foundation, SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators, Smart 3D, SmartPlant P&ID, SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Fusion, and Smart Data Validator.

Hexagon PPM implemented an integrated information management environment for design, document control, validation, handover, and asset lifecycle management, with separate design and operations views and integration to SAP. The solution improved data quality, reduced design inconsistencies and rework, strengthened change management, and enabled better handover and construction planning; for Kusile, this helped avoid costly delays, where even one day of downtime could cost about R48 million.
