A Hexagon PPM Case Study
Briggs of Burton, a UK process engineering company serving the brewing and distilling industry, was contracted to help build key phases of the expansion at Diageo’s Cameronbridge grain distillery in Scotland. The challenge was to extend and upgrade a live COMAH site while improving productivity, efficiency, safety, and reducing the carbon footprint. Hexagon PPM’s CADWorx Plant Design Suite, including CADWorx Plant Professional and CADWorx P&ID, was used on the project.
Hexagon PPM helped Briggs model the plant, pipework, vessels, and steelwork in CADWorx, with the P&ID database supporting all disciplines and streamlining purchasing schedules. The accurate models and fabrication drawings enabled safer ground-level assembly of large pipe-bridge sections, reduced on-site design changes, and delivered cost savings through better take-offs and bulk purchasing. Briggs reported time savings of approximately 10% to 15%, and users with prior CAD experience needed only about half a day of training to become productive.
