UnitedHealth Group - Customer Case Study

UnitedHealth Group, which provides health benefits and services to 85 million people worldwide, faced fragmented testing and quality processes across acquired teams and an aging ALM 11 environment that was incompatible with newer UFT versions. To standardize tools and processes, UnitedHealth engaged Hewlett Packard Enterprise to deploy HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and HP Unified Functional Testing (UFT) — using an on‑premise four‑node ALM 11 with planned upgrade to ALM 12.2, UFT 11.53/12.02, and ALM/UFT SaaS for external collaboration.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented the consolidated ALM/UFT solution company‑wide, enabling enterprise access and SaaS testing with customers, which supported 450 active projects, a 16,000‑user ALM pool and 3,000 UFT users, and delivered zero downtime in 2014. The deployment cut costs through license and hardware consolidation, standardized training, reporting and best practices via the Quality Solutions and CIS Quality Tools teams, freed administrators to focus on business value, and enabled joint testing with external customers (e.g., Vermont and Massachusetts).
