Telefónica UK - Customer Case Study

Telefónica UK (O2) faced rapidly growing data traffic and tight industry margins for its Pay & Go prepaid mobile service and needed a cost‑effective, high‑availability platform to preserve customer satisfaction. To meet these requirements, Telefónica UK engaged Hewlett Packard Enterprise to modernize the environment with the Integrity NonStop NB50000c BladeSystem and NonStop J‑series operating system, plus real‑time prepaid billing software and migration services.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise migrated O2’s Pay & Go workload with full application database synchronization across seven nodes, achieving a seamless cutover with no customer impact while the system handled thousands of transactions per second for roughly 14 million customers. The deployment cut data‑centre rack space by about 50%, reduced energy and support costs (including “hundreds of thousands” saved by moving to IP‑based signaling), and delivered improved TCO and manageability through the Integrity NonStop BladeSystem and ongoing HPE services.
