A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
Sunstein Kann Murphy & Timbers LLP, a Boston-based intellectual property law firm, faced growing volumes and sources of client information and needed an integrated, matter-centric platform to improve document management, collaboration, portal access, knowledge management and business process automation while ensuring compliance and reducing paper. They selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s document management solutions — notably HP WorkSite (and later HP FileSite) — to serve as the firm’s electronic client file repository and central technology hub.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented HP WorkSite as the central repository and integrated it with Sunstein’s custom matter portal, docketing workflow and business process systems; today Sunstein manages 2.1 million documents in WorkSite, adds about 295,000 documents a year and profiles roughly 130,000 emails annually. The deployment has largely eliminated routine paper files (keeping only ink‑signed originals), reduced scanning and manual tasks, automated profiling and workflows, tightened email governance, improved access across devices, and raised client service levels with minimal user training.
