Orion New Zealand Adopts Powerful Storage Solution for Electricity Delivery

Orion New Zealand, one of the largest electricity distribution networks in New Zealand serving almost 200,000 homes and businesses across 8,000 km², faced an ageing multi‑site storage architecture at two Christchurch data centres that was reaching the end of its five‑year lifecycle and struggling with performance, backup and scalability. To meet strict availability and disaster‑recovery requirements for its VMware metro cluster, Orion chose Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its HPE 3PAR StoreServ storage platform along with HPE 5900 switches and HPE Technology Services.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise deployed HPE 3PAR StoreServ with HPE 5900 top‑of‑rack switches and HPE 3PAR Peer Persistence (synchronous replication), with HPE Technology Services managing design, implementation and five years of 24/7 Proactive Care. The solution eliminated downtime, significantly improved backup capability, increased performance and scalability, enabled previously blocked projects and allowed faster ramp‑up of services — delivering the multi‑site, highly available storage platform Orion needs for the next five years.
