Optum - Customer Case Study

Optum360, part of UnitedHealth Group, faced the challenge of speeding IT delivery and increasing efficiency for support of 130,000 employees and tens of thousands of servers. To modernize provisioning, reduce errors and lower compliance overhead, Optum360 engaged Hewlett Packard Enterprise and deployed the HP Business Service Automation (BSA) suite (Service Automation, Operations Orchestration and Cloud Service Automation), supported by HP Software Professional Services and partner Avnet.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise automated Optum360’s server-build and cloud processes with the HP BSA suite, cutting server delivery from three months to one hour and saving over $10.6 million in two years. The solution enabled building 1,000+ servers monthly with the same staff, reduced manual build error rates to about 5%, lowered HIPPA compliance labor by 70%, repurposed roughly 20 IT staff to innovation (shifting IT to ~80% innovation), and materially improved availability, end-user productivity and time-to-market.
