Nebraska Medicine guards its data with integrated HPE solution

Nebraska Medical Center, a large medical group including the state’s largest hospital and teaching partner UNMC, faced the challenge of protecting and rapidly restoring more than 4PB of critical data across three data centers while managing multiple, inefficient backup tools. To simplify and centralize operations it worked with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, deploying HPE Data Protector software alongside HPE 3PAR StoreServ storage and HPE StoreOnce backup appliances.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise consolidated Nebraska Medical Center’s backup environment into a single, centrally managed platform, enabling federated deduplication and automation. The HPE solution cut backup windows in half (from 24 to 12 hours), extended retention from seven weeks to 52 weeks, delivered deduplication ratios over 30:1 (average >15:1), reduced restore times to 5–10 minutes (full restores often within 15 minutes), and is projected to save about US$1 million in software licensing over five years.
