JR East Japan improves IT Service Quality through Efficient Data Sharing

JR East Japan Information Systems Company (JEIS), which manages IT for about 70 JR East companies and over 200 mission‑critical systems supporting rail operations and services, needed to improve operational efficiency and IT service quality by sharing health and performance information across the company and monitoring 1,400 locations. JEIS partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and selected the HPE Moonshot System (45 HPE ProLiant m300 Server Cartridges in an HPE Moonshot 1500 Chassis) together with open source software to consolidate a company‑wide fault information system.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented the solution using the HPE Moonshot System, MySQL Cluster, HPE Insight Cluster Management Utility and HPE Open Source Expert Services to deliver a single 4.3U chassis that consolidates monitoring of 200+ IT systems and enables company‑wide sharing of fault and performance data. The deployment simplified management, strengthened JEIS’s open source capabilities, and produced measurable gains — consolidating 45 server nodes in one chassis and delivering up to ~80% less space and up to ~89% lower energy use compared with traditional servers.
