A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, a leading collector car auction house, faced rapid growth in high-definition video assets (about 8 TB per auction), an aging NetApp SAN that reached end-of-life, and the need for a portable, scalable archive to support televised events and marketing. Barrett-Jackson required reliable, high-performance active archiving with easy on-the-road access and long-term protection of valuable footage.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise delivered a combined HPE 3PAR StoreServ all-flash solution and an HPE StoreEver MSL6480 Tape Library with LTO-6 drives and Tape-as-NAS software (integrated with CatDV), enabling automated tape-as-NAS archiving, site-to-headquarters replication and real-time access via disk cache. The HPE solution protected hundreds of terabytes, provided 99.9999% availability and scalable capacity, and cut storage costs dramatically—shifting content to tape reduced costs from $2 to $0.01 per GB (a ~200× reduction).
