HPE Helion Enables Global Expansion of GS1’s Recall Service

GS1 Canada needed to scale its cloud-based product recall service beyond Canada’s grocery sector into new industries and countries while controlling infrastructure and development costs and adding features such as automated store‑level notifications. To meet these goals, GS1 Canada partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and chose HPE Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud along with HPE Software Services and the HPE Recall Web Portal.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented a white‑label, managed private cloud recall service that scaled into Australia, New Zealand and additional sectors (general merchandise, pharma, food service), enabled automated store‑level notifications, and lowered recall costs. The HPE solution delivered measurable gains in a pharmaceutical pilot—reducing recall creation time by 83%, improving communication effectiveness by 90% and cutting manufacturer‑to‑pharmacy communication time by 80%—while allowing GS1 Canada to expand globally without overtaxing resources.
