HEIDELBERG Simplifies Backups and Restores Flexibility

Heidelberg, a global printing press manufacturer, was facing time‑consuming, error‑prone tape backups and slow restores that threatened business continuity and customer service. To modernize its backup environment it engaged Hewlett Packard Enterprise, choosing HPE Data Protector Software 9.0 together with HPE StoreOnce (StoreOnce 4900) and an HPE StoreEver MSL 6480 tape library.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise delivered a combined hardware/software solution—HPE Data Protector integrated with HPE StoreOnce deduplication and LTO6 tapes via the StoreEver MSL 6480—allowing storage to NAS, StoreOnce Catalyst or a virtual tape library and enabling remote restores. The implementation achieved an 8.5:1 deduplication ratio, a 90% reduction in tapes (from ~2,000 to ~200), drastically shorter backup windows (24‑hour backups are now rare), hourly/incremental backups and restores often within minutes, plus simpler administration and improved flexibility.
