Ghent University Powers Advanced Research with HPE Energy- Efficient Supercomputers

Ghent University needed to expand its high-performance computing capacity to support world‑class, multidisciplinary research while controlling costs and energy use. The university selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its HPE Apollo 6000 System (deployed with HPE ProLiant servers and backed by HPE Proactive Care Service) to provide a stable, scalable, and energy‑efficient Tier 2 supercomputing platform.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented a dense, energy‑efficient HPE Apollo 6000 deployment—a 200+‑node cluster (20 chassis with ProLiant XL230a Gen9 nodes plus additional DL380e/Gen9 systems) and HPE Insight Online monitoring and Proactive Care support. The solution accelerated complex simulations and big‑data analyses (for example, MRI processing that once took weeks can now run overnight), improved reliability and OPEX, increased research throughput and publications, and helped Ghent University attract leading researchers.
