Case Study: GameStop achieves rapid, personalized customer insights with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HP Vertica)

A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study

Preview of the GameStop Case Study

GameStop Classic Click & Mortar Success

GameStop, a global video-game retailer headquartered in Grapevine, TX, needed deeper, faster insight into customer behavior than its traditional SQL-based reporting could provide. Working with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its Vertica Analytics platform (HP Vertica), GameStop sought to tie website, loyalty program, and register data together to move from flat reports to customer-level, predictive analytics that would improve targeting and loyalty.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented Vertica (including the v7 Microsoft SQL connector) with Tableau for visualization and SSIS-based data flows, loading nightly register and web-log data into a central analytics store. The solution now holds roughly 24 TB of customer and web data and has cut report-processing time from about a day to five minutes, enabling rapid ad hoc queries, clickstream analysis, and highly targeted marketing that drives measurable improvements in customer targeting and sales.
