For growth, the Amsterdam Public Library Makes Its Network More Robust

Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (OBA), the city’s central library network with a main branch and 27 locations serving nearly five million annual visitors, faced explosive growth in digital traffic and needed a robust, remotely manageable network with PoE+ and future 10 Gb readiness. To meet these requirements OBA selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its networking portfolio to replace an aging, unstable infrastructure and standardize on widely known hardware and software.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise supplied HPE 5900 core switches, HPE 5130HI switches at the main site, HPE 5130EI at branches and HPE Intelligent Management Center for centralized management. About 30 switches at the main location and 27 at branches (more than 2,500 ports) were upgraded with minimal disruption, enabling PoE+ for upcoming VoIP work, simpler remote administration, reduced on-site travel and far greater stability and capacity to handle future traffic growth.
