Food Retailer Manages Holiday Overload with HP 3PAR Storage

HoneyBaked Ham faced extreme holiday peaks—up to 1,000x busier on the busiest days—while running POS, inventory and reporting systems on aging storage (Hitachi AMS200 and DAS) that caused multi-hour data lags and hampered store-level decision making. After evaluating Dell, EMC, NetApp and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HoneyBaked Ham selected the Hewlett Packard Enterprise HP 3PAR F400 Storage system to deliver the I/O performance, capacity and manageability needed for real‑time transactional data.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise, working through partner VeriStor and HP Deployment/Technology Services, deployed the HP 3PAR F400 (consolidating Hitachi and DAS onto the array), and implemented 3PAR Thin Provisioning and Dynamic Optimization plus the InForm management console. The result: a measurable 5–10x performance increase on SQL jobs, queries and data loads, reduction of reporting lag from hours (previously as much as 12 hours) to under two minutes, simplified administration and a scalable platform to support future growth.
