A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
First National Bank, one of South Africa’s “big four” and part of the FirstRand Group, needed to keep up with rapidly growing point-of-sale (POS) transaction volumes (27–30% year-on-year) while maintaining 24x7 uptime for its FNB Merchant Services operation. To address this mission-critical challenge, the bank turned to Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its Integrity NonStop platform for POS processing.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise deployed Integrity NonStop NS2004 servers (with an NS2002 for development), HP Virtual Tape Server and HP Insight Remote Support plus HP Proactive 24 services; the upgrade boosted throughput from about 50 to over 180 transactions per second (a >300% increase), reduced backup/restore times by roughly 60%, achieved a seamless migration with only 20 minutes of downtime, and lowered support costs and staffing needs while ensuring continuous availability and capacity for further growth.
