Exelon identifies $25 million in first-year savings with HP Application Portfolio Management software

Exelon Corporation, a leading competitive energy provider, faced an unwieldy legacy of over 2,500 applications and a corporate mandate to reduce application costs and save $75 million by 2017. To tackle application retirement, consolidation and better governance, Exelon worked with Hewlett Packard Enterprise using HP Application Portfolio Management (part of HP Project & Portfolio Management Center) and HP Executive Scorecard.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented the Application Portfolio Management module and Executive Scorecard to analyze, standardize, retire and bundle applications, providing visibility, TCO metrics and roadmap support. The work identified a path to over $25 million in first-year savings, shortened inquiry response times to under 30 minutes, reduced operational IT workload, improved governance and data quality, and helped Exelon proactively identify security risks (including apps vulnerable to Heartbleed).
