Erasmus MC Finds the Remedy for Its Data Storage Headache

Erasmus Medical Center, a large university hospital in Rotterdam generating about 1TB of new data per day, was struggling with rapidly growing, compliance-bound storage needs and the complexity of scaling infrastructure. To solve this, the hospital selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise and its HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage delivered via an HPE Flexible Capacity pay‑per‑use agreement.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented a four‑tier architecture using HPE 3PAR StoreServ systems (including 10000/7400/10800/10400), SAN switching, ProLiant blade servers, Quantum StorNext/Linear Tape File System and HPE 3PAR Remote Copy, delivering an initial 1PB of capacity under Flexible Capacity. The deployment improved performance and 24x7 availability with online updates, automated capacity management (10% buffer, alerts at 80%), transparent tape archiving, reduced cost per GB and lower TCO, and enabled Erasmus Medical Center to meet regulatory retention and offer competitive storage services to other hospitals.
