A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
EMIS, the UK market-leading clinical systems provider that hosts 39 million patient records for about 5,000 GP practices, needed a more reliable SAN after legacy storage failures led to high-profile outages and risked breaching HSCIC GPSoC SLAs (zero data loss and 99.95% availability). The challenge was to ensure continuous, high-performance access for up to 50,000 concurrent clinicians and to avoid severe financial and reputational penalties. EMIS evaluated vendors and turned to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, selecting HPE 3PAR Storage and HPE Proactive Care to meet those demands.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented a resilient, active/active infrastructure with ten HPE P10000 3PAR V800 systems (five production, five DR), an HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7400 base, HPE BL460 servers, Brocade switches and HPE Proactive Care support. The solution delivered significantly higher IOPS, 24x7 support, and the scalability EMIS required, enabling EMIS to meet and exceed the 99.95% availability requirement, safeguard 39 million patient records, support peak loads of ~50,000 users, and avoid further SLA breaches.
