A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
Dubai Police needed to replace slow, manual license‑plate checks with an automated, day‑and‑night system that could read diverse Arabic and English plate styles across the seven Emirates, track wanted vehicles in moving traffic, and ensure only current alerts were acted on. To meet this challenge they implemented an ANPR solution built around HPE IDOL (now part of Micro Focus) analytics, integrated into patrol‑car roof light bars by Zenith Gulf Security Systems.
Using Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s HPE IDOL, the solution fuses data from 12 roof‑mounted cameras to read plates across three lanes at speed, pushes near‑real‑time database deltas to patrol cars (every three minutes), and issues image, plate and GPS alerts to officers. The system helped Dubai Police capture more than 2,700 individuals within the first 18 months, delivering instant access to up‑to‑the‑minute data, faster response times, and a foundation for expanding into facial recognition and broader video analytics.
