A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
CPS Energy, the nation’s largest municipally owned energy utility, needed to protect its business‑critical ERP environment—running SAP and Oracle—so that customer billing, payroll and service systems could be quickly restored if needed. To meet those requirements the utility turned to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, deploying HP Data Protector software alongside HP Integrity servers, HP‑UX and HP Enterprise Systems Library tape libraries.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented an enterprise backup solution using HP Data Protector across two data centers with direct‑attached fibre‑channel streaming to multiple cell managers and ESL tape libraries, enabling up to eight backups per day and simultaneous restores without interrupting backup jobs. The environment streams over 96 TB per week (individual backups of 1.5–4 TB), uses four ESL libraries (nine drives each) and split cell managers for SAP and Oracle, resulting in faster restore response, easier administration for DBAs and help‑desk staff, and a materially reduced risk of losing business‑critical data.
