A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
ARLP (Alliance Resource Partners) needed faster, more reliable storage and a robust disaster‑recovery strategy to support mission‑critical Oracle and Microsoft applications and to eliminate time‑consuming tape processes. As an existing Hewlett Packard Enterprise customer, ARLP evaluated options and selected HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7400 hybrid storage along with two HPE StoreOnce 4700 backup appliances to increase performance, capacity, and DR capability.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise implemented the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7400 and HPE StoreOnce 4700s (repurposing an F400 for remote DR) and provided HPE Proactive Care support. The result: applications and reports run ~70% faster, deduplication cut ARLP’s storage profile from 290TB to 29TB, full restores drop from 1–3 days to 1–2 hours, Oracle upgrade time fell from 19 to 6 hours, and the company realized roughly $500,000 in vendor‑comparison savings plus $20–30K in annual tape cost reductions and ~$3,000/month in co‑location savings.
