A Hewlett Packard Enterprise Case Study
ABB Americas faced a looming surge in data‑center demand—traffic forecast to quadruple and energy consumption to more than triple—so it sought to build more energy‑efficient, DC‑powered data centers and needed an OEM partner. ABB Americas selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which provided HVDC‑enabled IT (including HPE X1800 G2 Network Storage, HPE ProLiant DL385 servers and the HPE BladeSystem c3000) to pair with ABB’s DC power distribution technology.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise designed and delivered the high‑voltage DC servers and storage and supported a 1 MW DC power distribution deployment; the joint solution improved power‑distribution efficiency by 10% versus AC systems, enabled up to 20% energy savings through reduced cooling and lower grid‑to‑chip consumption, and cut investment costs for new builds by about 15%, demonstrating a scalable, lower‑cost, more sustainable data‑center model.
