The ‘Grow Now, Pay Later’ Initiative Changing Agricultural Finance

WayFina, a Zambia-based impact finance company supplying fertilizers and agricultural products to farmers and MSMEs, wanted to launch a “Grow Now, Pay Later” program to replace its prepayment model. Facing tight deadlines, limited digital infrastructure, little traditional credit data, and elevated fraud risk, the company partnered with HES FinTech and its HES LoanBox lending platform to create a direct-to-farmer financing experience for the planting season.

HES FinTech implemented a customized HES LoanBox solution with a landing page, application flow, dealer portal, regional payment integrations, alternative data sources, AI-driven risk models, and fraud detection tools. The project was still in development in the case study, but it was on track for December deployment and is expected to improve farmers’ access to fertilizers, boost crop yields, and strengthen food security in Zambia, with future expansion planned across other African markets.
