Acushnet Company (Titleist Golf Ball Operations) faced the challenge of reducing product variation and getting real-time, reliable production data: their legacy system ran overnight, produced data-entry errors, and could only be accessed by one person, limiting cross-facility visibility and management’s ability to track improvements. To address these needs they selected Hertzler Systems Inc’s GainSeeker Statistical Process Control Suite as an operator-friendly, PC-based SPC solution that could handle both attribute and variable data and link directly to measuring devices.
Hertzler Systems Inc implemented GainSeeker with device integration, dashboard displays, and raw-material monitoring with automated alerts, giving Acushnet immediate drill-down analytics and real-time process control. The results: customer returns fell from 8 per million in 2002 to less than 0.25 per million today while shipping 580,000 balls per day; the customer-return role dropped from a full-time job to 1–2 hours per week, and the company can now quickly identify variation and report improvements to management.
