A Heroku Case Study
Ruckit is an Austin-based startup that digitizes construction logistics for contractors, carriers and material producers, tackling an industry that still relies on paper job tickets and requires near‑real‑time tracking (critical for time‑sensitive loads like fresh asphalt). The company needed to modernize ticketing and location tracking at scale while keeping a small engineering team focused on product rather than infrastructure and meeting customers’ regulatory requirements.
Ruckit built two products on Heroku—Ticket Pro (Ruby on Rails) and the Ruckit Platform (Python/Django)—using Heroku Postgres, Heroku Redis, Cloudinary, OCR services, mobile apps and geofencing to automate ticket capture, real‑time location pings and delivery confirmation. The managed platform let Ruckit scale to 10,000+ tickets a day and handle thousands of location updates without added DevOps overhead, reduced errors and fraud, simplified Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance, accelerated time‑to‑market, and freed the team to focus on new features like payments and financing.
