Rhino is a startup that replaces upfront security deposits with an insurance-backed alternative, lowering the cost of renting for tenants and simplifying management for landlords. As it scaled, Rhino faced a highly fragmented regulatory environment across states plus varying partner security and integration requirements, while also needing rapid, reliable integrations with landlords’ systems and robust data for underwriting and operations.

Rhino built its platform on Heroku (Heroku Enterprise, Postgres, Redis) with Rails and an Elixir/Phoenix API, using Heroku Connect to sync with Salesforce and Stitch to feed a Heroku Postgres data warehouse visualized in Tableau. The managed platform and compliance certifications (SOC/ISO) reduced audit overhead, accelerated partner integrations and onboarding, and enabled data-driven decisions—helping Rhino expand to 41 states and scale operations with greater agility and security.
