Nederland Cares App Uses Heroku, Heroku Connect, and Salesforce to Accelerate Volunteer Engagement

Nederland Cares is a Dutch nonprofit that connects busy young professionals and corporate teams with short-term, city-specific volunteer opportunities. Facing an inefficient, manual legacy system, the organization needed a simple, fast front end for volunteers and a powerful CRM back end to manage activities, signups and corporate partnerships.

Development partner Gen25 built a Heroku-hosted Django web app that uses Heroku Connect to sync real-time volunteer data with a Force.com/Salesforce CRM, backed by Heroku Postgres and supporting add-ons for monitoring, backups and security. The result: seamless real-time recruitment, better volunteer insights and campaign management, no more performance bottlenecks—last year volunteers contributed 44,000 hours across 1,300 activities and 500 organizations.
