Lutron Brings IoT Strategy to Light on Heroku

Lutron, a global leader in lighting control, built the Caséta Wireless Smart Bridge to let users control lights and shades from anywhere via a mobile app. Facing costly, proprietary remote-access technology that limited reach and slowed releases, Lutron partnered with LogMeIn and Heroku to deliver a consumer-ready, real-time smartphone and tablet experience.

LogMeIn’s Xively IoT platform provided secure device connectivity and a Node.js app on Heroku enabled remote control from iOS and Android devices (supporting up to 50 devices). The new non‑proprietary system cut time-to-market by 50%, lowered development costs that could be passed to consumers, and expanded Lutron’s addressable market while maintaining a simple, high-quality user experience.
