Hotel Engine’s Startup Journey Is Smooth and Steady on Heroku

Hotel Engine, founded in 2015 as a spin‑out from Travelers Haven, needed to validate and scale a hotel‑booking platform quickly without heavy upfront infrastructure or DevOps overhead. The challenge was to move from prototype to production rapidly, support varied customer workflows (including close CRM-driven sales processes), and keep data synchronized and secure as the business and engineering team grew.

By building on Heroku, Hotel Engine rapidly deployed a Rails-based MVP, used managed services (Heroku Postgres, Redis, Dataclips) and CI/CD to iterate quickly, and leveraged Heroku Connect for real‑time syncing with Salesforce. The result was faster development with no dedicated DevOps hires, reliable security and maintenance, seamless data sharing for sales and reporting, and the ability to scale and add features—enabling significant business growth and an expanded engineering team.
