Heroku Powers Complex Search and Video Processing to Drive Insights and Innovation within Market Research Teams

Conifer Research, a Chicago-based market research firm, needed to replace manual, legacy systems that were difficult to maintain and required VPN access and onsite updates. Working with Heroku and LaunchPad Lab, Conifer set out to improve internal data processing and give clients self-service access to rich research data, including search across projects and media-heavy records.

Heroku powered the new cloud-based platform, including the complex search and video processing behind Conifer’s internal app and client portal. Built with Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, the solution used Heroku Postgres, Memcachier, Bonsai Elasticsearch, and worker/performance dynos to handle large datasets and media files. The result was a faster, scalable, highly visual portal that improved efficiency, enabled curated content sharing, and gave Conifer more bandwidth to take on additional projects and grow its business.
