Wunderman Thompson, a global creative and technology agency within WPP, helps brands build fast, data-driven digital experiences. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the agency to cancel an in-person creativity conference with one week to go, the team faced the urgent challenge of creating a meaningful online event for tens of thousands of attendees while also meeting clients’ ongoing needs for rapid prototyping and Salesforce-integrated apps.

The agency used Heroku’s managed platform—including Heroku Connect, Postgres, and add-ons like Adept Scale and loader.io—to stand up the event infrastructure in about 15 minutes, enable frictionless Salesforce data synchronization for commerce use cases, and auto-scale during peak demand. The Sofa Sets online festival served as many as 200,000 concurrent users without incident, and other projects that typically take years were completed in months thanks to faster deployment and built-in Salesforce integration.
