Built as a Ruby on Rails app on Heroku and integrated with Shopify and Twilio, ElectricSMS was prototyped in a weekend and commercialized within weeks; Heroku’s managed services (Postgres, Redis, scaling, and add‑ons) let a single developer focus on product improvements instead of DevOps. The result: faster iteration, automated front‑line support that saves owners hours, higher subscriber responsiveness (SMS responses are reported as 13× email), reduced churn, and increased monthly recurring revenue for customers.
