A Heroku Case Study
Dollar General, the largest dollar-store chain in the U.S., set out to move beyond its “dollar store” niche and compete with big-box retailers by sourcing higher-quality, regional products and serving underserved markets (for example, offering fresh produce in urban areas). To make that strategy work they needed a robust mobile solution that would let customers find store-specific discounts, specials and inventory quickly — but available options were slow, incomplete or too costly to evolve.
Dollar General selected Taqtile on the Heroku platform for a low-cost, high-performance, easily extensible mobile solution and launched native iOS and Android apps offering ads, coupons, store locations, inventory search, shopping lists and social sharing. The app integrated retail marketing with social and direct outreach, increased awareness of store-specific offerings (including fresh produce), helped drive customers into stores, and provides a platform they can iterate and expand as the business grows.
