A Heroku Case Study
DocSend is a document-intelligence platform (founded in 2013) that helps sales, marketing, investors, and entrepreneurs track who views their documents, which pages resonate, and control access to shorten sales cycles and uncover leads. Facing unpredictable traffic patterns, a need for a lightning-fast development cycle, and strict production reliability—especially after an early adopter drove six-figure deals before public launch—DocSend needed a scalable, resilient infrastructure.
The team built their Rails app on Heroku with Heroku Postgres, worker dynos and add-ons like Dataclips, PubNub, New Relic, Logentries and Bugsnag to handle document processing, live presentations, real-time events and monitoring. That stack let them scale instantly without provisioning servers, accelerate development, deliver granular access and analytics features, and support traffic spikes—resulting in faster sales cycles, stronger fundraising tools, and reliable performance for enterprise customers.
