A Hero K12 Case Study
Valley High School faced a toxic school culture and the stigma of a state “priority school” designation after years of low achievement and disengaged students. To flip the culture, the Louisville school adopted Hero K12’s web-based positive behavior program (Hero), launching a teacher pilot and clear behavior goals to reward and reinforce better student choices.
Using Hero K12, any staff member could immediately award points for four tracked behaviors (On Time, Tuned In, Viking Pride, The Viking Way), creating consistent, schoolwide reinforcement. The results were dramatic: positive staff–student interactions rose 1,200%, tardiness fell 25%, inappropriate cell phone use dropped 32%, student engagement and courtesy improved, and the school ultimately shed its priority label.
