How One School Created a Positive Behavior Support (Pbs) Program That High School Students Actually respond to

Homestead Senior High faced a common high‑school challenge: students who were disengaged and demotivated, making district‑mandated Positive Behavior Support (PBS) hard to implement. To address this, Dean of Discipline Steve Whittle adopted Hero K12’s PBS platform (Hero) to track and reward small, attainable behaviors like being an Early Bird, Random Acts of Kindness, and wearing the proper uniform.

Hero K12 worked with Homestead to build an inclusive reward culture—using features of the Hero platform to issue points and enable incentives such as a VIP cafeteria section, raffle tickets, and field‑trip eligibility tied to points. The program drove strong participation (up to 200 students attending the Saturday Success Academy to earn points) and measurable gains: tracked behaviors rose from Week 4 to Week 14 across categories like Following School Procedures, Positive Student Engagement, and Proper School Uniform, and teachers report noticeably improved student behavior and morale. Hero K12’s solution helped turn small daily successes into sustained positive change.
