A Hero K12 Case Study
Boynton Beach Community High School, led by principal Guarn Sims, faced a culture and achievement challenge: community misperceptions, roughly 2,000 students behind academically, and persistent behavioral issues that hurt learning. To shift the focus toward positive behavior and recognizing high achievers, the school adopted the Hero app from Hero K12, a point-based positive behavior management program.
Using Hero K12’s app, teachers award points for arriving on time, wearing IDs, participating in class, and other expected behaviors; points are redeemable for prizes and privileges, and the system delivers instant reporting and parent notifications. The impact has been measurable: average daily tardies dropped from 311 to 11, the school’s grade moved from a D to a C, 80% of teachers reported a “significant impact,” and administrators report stronger teacher and student buy-in and improving academic outcomes.
