Case Study: Mitsubishi Corporation achieves real-time transit visibility with HERE Technologies

Empowering public transport with Designium and Mitsubishi

Designium, a technology company, sought to help Aizu Bus improve its transit service in the Aizu region of Japan. The challenge was a lack of real-time visibility for both passengers and the bus operator, who relied on outdated, static timetables and outsourced data management. This made it difficult for tourists and locals to know a bus's location, delays, or cancellations, which was a significant problem in an area with heavy snowfall. Mitsubishi Corporation introduced Designium to HERE Technologies to find a solution.

HERE Technologies provided its location platform, including HERE Transit and Routing APIs, which Designium used to build a new system. The solution delivered real-time bus tracking, dynamic updates for delays, and the ability for Aizu Bus to manage its own GTFS data instantly. The results included increased operational efficiency with seamless rerouting, improved passenger satisfaction, and the potential to attract more visitors to the region through a more reliable and transparent transportation service.
