King’s College London - Customer Case Study

King’s College London, home to the Twins Early Development Study (TEDS), faced the challenge of making their tedious and hard cognitive capacity tests more engaging for participants. The goal was to reduce study dropouts while ensuring the collected data remained scientifically valid. The vendor, Helmes, was engaged to address this through software development.

Helmes created a gamified digital test platform to replace the previous paper-based versions. They developed an overarching medieval-themed fantasy story to give the tests context and kept participants engaged with a visually evolving, game-like castle. As a result, the vendor helped make the testing process more fun, successfully reducing participant dropouts for this lifelong study that has made groundbreaking discoveries.
