How CHRISTUS Hospital used HealthStream reports, education, and authoring as key components in their Journey to Nursing Excellence

CHRISTUS Hospital St. Elizabeth & St. Mary, the largest hospital between Houston and Baton Rouge, committed to achieving ANCC Magnet Recognition to advance nursing excellence and patient care. Their Magnet journey faced major disruptions — Hurricane Rita, a merger that doubled the nursing operation, and a concurrent information system implementation — all of which threatened to derail the lengthy accreditation process.

Partnering with HealthStream, Christus used the Learning Center, Authoring Center, and advanced reporting to deliver and document training (over 100,000 courses in 18 months), publish required policies, and track compliance down to the unit level. The online approach met learner preferences (87% favored online), improved access and resource use, strengthened the Education–Magnet office partnership, and enabled the hospital to achieve Magnet Recognition on December 14, 2007.
