Newark Community Health Centers, Inc., a federally qualified health center network in Newark, struggled with fragmented, non‑interoperable electronic records, siloed patient data across hospitals, labs and state systems, duplicated data entry, and the need to meet HIPAA and ARRA meaningful‑use requirements. To address these challenges they engaged HealthEC to deploy an interoperable, HIPAA‑compliant health information exchange/portal (Health-e-cITi) to centralize clinical data and enable secure sharing among providers, payers and patients.

HealthEC implemented the Health-e-cITi HIE portal with web‑based access to a shared clinical repository and live interfaces to hospital systems, New Jersey’s immunization registry, Medicaid medication histories and internal data warehouses, plus automated ED HL7 workflows. The solution delivered real‑time medication histories and immunization verification, eliminated duplicate nurse data entry, improved care transitions via a universal transfer form, and helped meet meaningful‑use deliverables—immediate, measurable improvements in clinical data access reported by Newark Community Health Centers, Inc.
